WS at ERF 2026

Our euRobotics! ERF workshop WS#53 Advanced Robot Manipulation of Deformable and Fragile Objects took place today at the very start of the ERF. It was a great event with interesting presentations, but most importantly, excellent attendance! Hopefully, we continue collaboration with the attendees, maybe through the Network of Excellence non Deformable Object Manipulation by Robots (https://dom-net.eu/).

The ws was organized between EU projects SoftEnable, Project ROMANDIC, Flexcycle_project and MTC – Manufacturing Technology Centre; by Florian T. Pokorny, Andrej Gams and MAHESH DISSANAYAKE.

Successful ROMANDIC winter school

The Project ROMANDIC winter school on deformable object manipulation (DOM) by robots, extensively presented on our webpage, was organized to:
* address the underlying topics of robot handling of deformables;
*get hands-on experience in the specifics of perception, simulation, use of robots, and applications in the field; and
* meet and discuss with people working on the topic.

In short, to learn new things and have a good time at it.

The winter school was a great success! Check the winter school webpage!

Secondments between JSI and CSIC

This autumn in Project ROMANDIC we had three secondments between Jozef Stefan Institute’s Humanoid and Cognitive Robotics Lab and IRI – Institut de Robòtica i Informàtica Industrial, CSIC-UPC. We started with Mahed Dadgostar and Franco Coltraro’s visit in Ljubljana and ended with Andrej Gams’s visit in Barcelona, hosted by Júlia Borràs Sol and Guillem Alenya. Great things are ahead!

Senior Researcher Seminar held at KIT

One of the key events of Project ROMANDIC, the Senior Researcher Seminar, took place at the High Performance Humanoid Technologies (H2T), Institute for Anthropomatics and Robotics (IAR) Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

In three days of lively discussions and interesting presentations of leading researchers in the field, we learned a lot about deformable object manipulation by robots.

We also initialized the Network of Excellence on Deformable Object Manipulation by Robots DOM-net.eu

Winter school on Robot handling of deformable objects – registration open

We are glad to announce Winter school on robot handling of deformables in the scope of the EU project ROMANDIC (https://project-romandic.eu/winter-school-2026/), which will take place from February 9th till 13th in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.

*** Motivation and objectives ***

The purpose of the winter school is to address the underlying topics of robot handling of deformables and get hands-on experience in the specifics of perception, simulation, use of robots, and applications in the field. We have invited the leading European scientists and practitioners in this field to give lectures and we have prepared interactive sessions / mini projects with the use of collaborative robots and simulation packages.

The school is specifically crafted for young and talented Ph.D. students and post-docs.

*** Confirmed lecturers ***

Julia Borras                        CSIC, Barcelona, Spain

Tamim Asfour                   KIT, Karlsruhe, Germany

Arash Ajoudani                 IIT, Genova, Italy

Francis wyffels                  UGent, Ghent, Belgium

Andrej Gams                     JSI, Ljubljana, Slovenia

Renaud Detry                    KUL, Leuven, Belgium

Danijel Skočaj                   FRI, Ljubljana, Slovenia

Noémie Jaquier                KTH, Stockholm, Sweden

Two more, currently still unconfirmed speakers will present.

*** Important Dates ***

Registration is open

Registration deadline:                   November 24th, 2025

Notification of acceptance           December   9th, 2025

Potential participants are required to submit a one-page CV and a half-page letter describing their motivation to attend before November 15th, 2025. Registration is limited to 50 applicants.

Participants will be selected based on their motivation letter and CV.

*** Organizers ***

The Winter school is organized in the scope of EU project ROMANDIC (https://project-romandic.eu/), with all project partners participating in the organization:

JSI: Andrej Gams, Aleš Ude, Peter Nimac, Jan Jerićević, Matija Mavsar

CSIC: Julia Borras, Guillem Alenyà

KIT: Tamim Asfour

*** Venue and location ***

The Winter School will take place in Hotel Ramada in Kranjska Gora, with accommodation in Hotel Kompas. Accommodation and half-board are included in the “registration fee”.

The small town of Kranjska Gora lies in the Upper Sava Valley. Kranjska Gora is a 45-minute drive (66 km) from Ljubljana Airport, just 40 minutes from Klagenfurt Airport (Austria) and an hour’s drive from Trieste Airport (Italy).
